The Rummy Nose Rasbora (Sawbwa resplendens) is a rare and dazzling freshwater fish known for its sleek body, vivid coloration, and graceful swimming style. Native to Inle Lake in Myanmar (Burma), this species is sometimes called the Asian Rummy Nose due to its bright red face, which contrasts beautifully with its silver-blue body and transparent fins. Males, in particular, develop striking red heads and bluish flanks that shimmer under aquarium lighting, making them a standout addition to peaceful community tanks.

Adult Rummy Nose Rasboras stay small, reaching about 1.5 inches (3.5–4 cm), and are perfect for nano or mid-sized aquariums. Their slender, torpedo-shaped bodies and tight schooling behavior make them mesmerizing to watch, especially in groups of six or more.

Ideal water parameters:
Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
pH: 6.5–7.5
Hardness: 4–12 dGH

Tank setup: A planted aquarium with gentle filtration, stable water, and open swimming space suits them best. Use darker substrates and subdued lighting to highlight their reflective colors. Floating plants such as Frogbit or Water Sprite provide cover, while fine-leaved plants like Myriophyllum or Cabomba offer spawning surfaces and comfort.

Diet: Rummy Nose Rasboras are omnivores and appreciate a varied diet. Offer high-quality micro-pellets or flakes as a staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and micro worms. Regular feeding of protein-rich foods helps maintain their color intensity.

Temperament and tankmates: These rasboras are peaceful, active schooling fish that do best in calm, well-maintained community tanks. Excellent companions include tetras, endlers, small gouramis, corydoras, and shrimp. Avoid aggressive or large species that may intimidate them.

In summary, the Rummy Nose Rasbora (Sawbwa resplendens) is a rare, elegant, and vibrantly colored schooling fish that adds motion and brilliance to any freshwater aquarium. Its vivid red face, shimmering silver-blue body, and peaceful nature make it a perfect choice for aquarists seeking a unique, harmonious species for a planted or community setup.
