Tank Setup Tips
Neocaridina shrimp do best in a stable, established aquarium with plants, moss, hiding places, and gentle filtration. Sponge filters are a great choice because they help protect shrimplets and provide extra surfaces for grazing.
These shrimp love tanks with plenty of texture, including driftwood, rocks, leaf litter, and dense plants. The more surfaces they have to explore, the more natural behavior you will see.
Feeding
Neocaridina shrimp spend most of the day grazing, but they should still be offered a varied diet. Feed quality shrimp food, algae wafers, powdered foods, and occasional blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach. In a healthy planted tank, they will also feed on biofilm and leftover bits of food.
Important Note on Colors
Different Neocaridina colors can live together, but they may crossbreed. Over time, mixed-color colonies often produce more natural or less intense coloration. If you want to keep a strong color line, it is best to keep each variety in its own tank.
What to Expect
Neocaridina shrimp are always doing something. They graze on plants, climb through moss, pick at driftwood, and bring a lot of subtle life to the aquarium. In the right setup, they may even reproduce and form a thriving colony over time.
