The Longfin Panda Cory (Corydoras panda) is a graceful and endearing bottom-dwelling catfish known for its adorable “panda” markings and elegant, extended fins. A selectively bred variety of the classic Panda Cory, this fish retains the same charming black-and-white pattern—black patches over the eyes, dorsal fin, and tail base—while adding long, flowing fins that give it a soft, gliding motion as it explores the substrate. Native to the upper Amazon River basin in Peru, this species is both hardy and peaceful, making it a favorite among community tank enthusiasts.

Adult Longfin Panda Corys grow to about 2–2.5 inches (5–6 cm) and, like all Corydoras, are highly social fish that should be kept in groups of at least six or more. In groups, they display fascinating schooling behavior and are most active and confident.

Ideal water parameters:
Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
pH: 6.0–7.5
Hardness: 2–15 dGH

Tank setup:
Provide a soft, sandy substrate to protect their delicate barbels, as they love to sift through the sand in search of food. Add driftwood, smooth stones, and live plants like Anubias, Java Fern, or Cryptocoryne for shade and shelter. A 20-gallon or larger aquarium with clean, well-oxygenated water and gentle filtration is ideal. Moderate water flow and dim to moderate lighting mimic their natural environment.

Diet:
Longfin Panda Corys are omnivorous scavengers that thrive on a variety of sinking foods. Offer high-quality sinking pellets or wafers as a staple, along with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Occasional blanched vegetables or algae wafers can also be included in their diet.

Temperament and tankmates:
Extremely peaceful and gentle, these corys make excellent community fish. They coexist beautifully with other calm species such as tetras, rasboras, livebearers, dwarf gouramis, and small loaches. Avoid aggressive or large species that may disturb them.

Breeding:
Like most Corydoras, they are egg layers. Spawning can often be triggered by cooler water changes and an increase in high-protein foods. The female lays adhesive eggs on glass, plants, or décor, which can be moved to a separate tank to protect the fry.

In summary, the Longfin Panda Cory (Corydoras panda) is a peaceful, charming, and visually elegant bottom dweller that combines the beloved panda pattern with flowing fins for extra grace. Its gentle temperament, playful group behavior, and low-maintenance care make it a perfect addition to any peaceful freshwater aquarium.
