The Japan Blue Endler (Poecilia wingei) is a brilliantly colored and energetic livebearer that combines the shimmering blue tones of the famous “Japan Blue” guppy line with the compact size and vibrant personality of pure Endlers. Native to Venezuela, Endlers are closely related to guppies but remain smaller, more active, and intensely colorful. The Japan Blue Endler showcases a stunning metallic sky-blue or turquoise streak along its body, often paired with orange, red, or black accents on the tail and fins—creating a striking, high-contrast appearance that glows under aquarium lighting.

Adult males typically reach about 1 inch (2.5 cm) and display the vivid blue body and extended fin colors, while females grow up to 1.5 inches (3.5 cm) and have a more subdued silver or pale gold appearance. Despite their small size, these fish are full of personality and energy, constantly exploring and flashing their colors throughout the tank.

Ideal water parameters:
Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
pH: 6.8–8.0
Hardness: 8–20 dGH

Tank setup: Japan Blue Endlers thrive in well-planted aquariums with gentle filtration and stable water conditions. A 10-gallon or larger tank is ideal for a small colony. Provide open swimming space with plants like Hornwort, Java Moss, and Water Sprite to create shelter and fry protection. Because they are livebearers, females can give birth every 3–4 weeks—dense vegetation or spawning mops help increase fry survival.

Diet: These Endlers are omnivores and do best on a varied diet of high-quality flakes or micro-pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Vegetable-based foods such as spirulina flakes help maintain their color and overall health.

Temperament and tankmates: Peaceful, social, and constantly active, Japan Blue Endlers do best in small groups and get along well with other gentle fish such as guppies, platies, rasboras, tetras, and corydoras. Avoid aggressive or large species that could harass or eat them.

In summary, the Japan Blue Endler (Poecilia wingei) is a dazzling, hardy, and lively nano fish that adds a flash of metallic blue brilliance to any freshwater aquarium. With their friendly nature, compact size, and stunning coloration, they are perfect for planted tanks, community setups, or small desktop aquariums where their vivid movement can be fully appreciated.
