The Green Cory Longfin (Corydoras aeneus “Longfin”) is a peaceful, hardy, and elegant bottom-dwelling catfish known for its metallic green-bronze sheen and beautifully extended fins. It’s a selectively bred variety of the popular Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus), developed for its long, flowing fins that give it a graceful, gliding appearance as it moves across the substrate. The combination of iridescent coloration and delicate finnage makes this fish both functional and decorative in community aquariums.

Adult Green Cory Longfins typically reach about 2.5–3 inches (6–7.5 cm) and, like all corydoras, are social schooling fish that thrive in groups of at least six or more. They are gentle scavengers, constantly sifting through the substrate for leftover food and helping keep the tank clean.

Ideal water parameters:
Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
pH: 6.5–7.5
Hardness: 2–15 dGH

Tank setup: Provide a soft, sandy substrate to protect their sensitive barbels while foraging. Decorate the tank with driftwood, smooth stones, and live plants like Anubias, Java Fern, or Amazon Swords to create shaded areas and hiding spots. They prefer clean, well-oxygenated water with gentle filtration and moderate flow. A 20-gallon tank or larger is recommended for a small school.

Diet: Green Cory Longfins are omnivores and will eat a variety of sinking foods. Feed them quality sinking pellets, wafers, and occasional treats of frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A balanced diet ensures good coloration, energy, and fin development.

Temperament and tankmates: Exceptionally peaceful and social, they make excellent additions to community tanks with other calm fish such as tetras, rasboras, guppies, platies, and dwarf gouramis. Avoid aggressive or large species that may intimidate or outcompete them.

Breeding: Like other Corydoras, they are egg layers that spawn after water changes or cool rain-like conditions. Females deposit eggs on tank surfaces, and adults don’t guard them—so moving the eggs to a separate hatching tank increases survival rates.

In summary, the Green Cory Longfin is a graceful, active, and easy-to-care-for bottom dweller that brings both function and beauty to a freshwater aquarium. Its shimmering color, flowing fins, and peaceful nature make it a standout choice for aquarists seeking elegance and harmony in their tank.
