CRYPTOCORYNE UNDULATA
CRYPTOCORYNE UNDULATA
Cryptocoryne undulata is a classic and reliable aquarium plant known for its wavy, textured leaves and deep earthy tones ranging from olive green to reddish-brown. Native to Sri Lanka, this hardy Crypt species is ideal for both beginners and seasoned aquascapers looking for a resilient, low-maintenance midground plant that adds natural movement and depth to the tank.
Description:
Cryptocoryne undulata typically grows 4–10 inches tall, forming lush clusters over time. Its narrow, undulating leaves make it perfect for planted tanks that aim for a wild, natural look. The plant adapts well to a variety of setups, from low-tech community tanks to high-tech aquascapes.
Care Tips:
This species thrives in low to medium light, making it great for tanks without CO₂ injection. While it doesn’t require high light or fertilizers to survive, regular use of root tabs or nutrient-rich substrate will encourage faster growth and richer colors. It prefers stable conditions—avoid sudden changes in water parameters to prevent “Crypt melt,” where older leaves temporarily die back before regrowing stronger.
Ideal temperature range is 72–82°F, with a pH between 6.0–7.5. Once established, Cryptocoryne undulata is very forgiving and can live for years, slowly spreading through runners that form new plantlets.
