The Blue Star Endler (Poecilia wingei) is a dazzling and energetic nano fish known for its electric blue body and vivid orange or red highlights that seem to glow under aquarium lighting. A selectively bred variation of the pure Endler’s Livebearer, the Blue Star features a metallic blue-green shimmer along its flanks and a bright splash of color in the tail and dorsal fin—often arranged in a star-like pattern, which gives the strain its name. Small, hardy, and constantly active, these fish bring incredible color and life to any freshwater aquarium.

Adult males grow to about 1 inch (2.5 cm) and are brilliantly colored, while females reach around 1.5 inches (3.5 cm) and have a more subdued silvery tone. Despite their size, Blue Star Endlers are lively swimmers that display natural schooling behavior, best kept in groups for full effect.

Ideal water parameters:
Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
pH: 6.8–8.0
Hardness: 8–20 dGH

Tank setup:
These Endlers thrive in well-planted aquariums with stable, clean water and gentle filtration. A 10-gallon or larger tank is ideal for a small colony. Provide floating plants like Frogbit or Water Sprite for surface cover and fine-leaved plants such as Java Moss for fry to hide in. As livebearers, females can produce fry every 3–4 weeks, so dense vegetation or breeding boxes will help increase fry survival.

Diet:
Blue Star Endlers are omnivores that do best on a balanced, high-quality diet. Offer micro-pellets or fine flake food daily, and supplement with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms to boost coloration. Adding spirulina-based foods supports health and intensifies their metallic blue hues.

Temperament and tankmates:
These fish are peaceful, social, and perfect for nano or community aquariums. They coexist beautifully with other gentle species such as guppies, platies, rasboras, tetras, ricefish, and shrimp. Avoid large or aggressive fish that might harass or eat them.

In summary, the Blue Star Endler (Poecilia wingei) is a small but strikingly colorful livebearer that adds nonstop energy and brilliance to any freshwater aquarium. Its glowing blue body, fiery fin accents, and playful nature make it a top choice for aquarists who love vivid color and activity in a compact, easy-to-care-for fish.
