The Blue Lyretail Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is a striking and elegant variation of the classic guppy, known for its vibrant blue hues and distinctive lyre-shaped tail. The tail features long, trailing upper and lower edges that give the fish a graceful, flowing appearance as it swims. This variety is especially popular among guppy breeders and aquascaping enthusiasts because of its color intensity, symmetry, and lively personality.

Adult males grow to around 1.5 inches (3.5–4 cm), while females can reach up to 2.5 inches (6 cm). Males display the brightest coloration and most pronounced fin shapes, making them the visual highlight of any tank.

Ideal water parameters:
Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
pH: 7.0–8.0
Hardness: moderate to hard (8–20 dGH)

Tank setup: Blue Lyretail Guppies thrive in clean, well-filtered water with some current but not too strong. A tank of 10 gallons or larger is suitable for a small group. They appreciate planted aquariums with open swimming space, floating plants for shade, and hiding areas for fry. As livebearers, females can produce young every 4–6 weeks, so it’s wise to include dense vegetation or breeding boxes to protect newborns.

Diet: These guppies are omnivorous and easy to feed. They do best with a mix of high-quality flakes or micro pellets, along with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Supplementing with spirulina or vegetable flakes enhances their color and health.

Temperament and tankmates: Blue Lyretail Guppies are peaceful, active community fish that pair well with other livebearers, small tetras, rasboras, and corydoras. Avoid fin-nipping species like barbs or aggressive fish that could damage their delicate fins.

With their glowing blue coloration and flowing tails, Blue Lyretail Guppies add motion, elegance, and a splash of color to any freshwater community tank.
