ANUBIAS HASTIFOLIA
ANUBIAS HASTIFOLIA
Anubias hastifolia is a hardy, elegant aquarium plant recognized for its distinctive arrowhead-shaped leaves and rich green coloration. Native to West Africa, this plant is an excellent choice for aquarists of all skill levels due to its low maintenance needs and adaptability to a wide range of tank conditions. Its bold, upright leaves make it a perfect accent plant for midground or background placement in freshwater setups.
Description:
Anubias hastifolia can grow quite large, often reaching 12–18 inches in height under the right conditions. Its broad, leathery leaves and tall stems create a natural focal point while offering shelter for fish and shrimp. Like other Anubias species, it grows from a rhizome, which should never be buried—attach it to driftwood, rocks, or decorations instead, allowing the roots to anchor naturally.
Care Tips:
This plant thrives in low to medium light, making it perfect for low-tech tanks or shaded areas of aquascapes. High light may cause algae growth on its slow-growing leaves, so moderate lighting is ideal. It prefers temperatures between 72–82°F and a pH of 6.5–7.8. Anubias hastifolia absorbs nutrients through its leaves and roots, so occasional dosing of liquid fertilizer will help maintain vibrant growth.
CO₂ supplementation is not required but can enhance leaf size and color. Trim old or damaged leaves at the base to encourage new growth and maintain a clean look.
