3 HORNED NERITE SNAILS
3 HORNED NERITE SNAILS
Horned Nerite Snails (Clithon corona) are small, striking freshwater snails easily recognized by the tiny horn-like spikes that decorate their shells. Their shells come in a range of patterns and colors—black, gold, olive, or striped—making them both functional and decorative additions to aquariums.
They typically grow up to about 1 inch and are among the best natural algae eaters available. Horned Nerites clean glass, rocks, driftwood, and plants without harming live vegetation, making them ideal for planted aquariums and community tanks. They thrive in water with a temperature between 72–82°F and a pH of 7.0–8.2.
These snails are peaceful and compatible with shrimp, tetras, Cory catfish, and other small non-aggressive species. They do not reproduce in freshwater (their eggs won’t hatch without brackish conditions), so they won’t overpopulate your tank.
To keep their shells healthy and bright, ensure good calcium levels in the water and offer supplemental food like algae wafers or blanched vegetables when algae are limited. With their unique appearance and hardworking nature, Horned Nerite Snails are an excellent choice for aquarists who want both beauty and utility in their tanks.
